Welcome to the first Corelli podcast. The
subject under discussion focuses on what exactly Bach means
when he writes an appoggiatura (or Vorschlag in German). Although we might think we
know what he intends by using a particular notation, how can we
be sure? And have we got it right?
To hear the podcast, click on the link
below. You might find it helpful to follow this link to a pdf score of the Sarabande from the
5th Partita - the piece under discussion. There is also a facsimile of the original print. You can follow the
score of the Rameau example;
and the Quantz quotation.
The subjects of future podcasts will
include the Accompaniment of Bach’s Recitative;
Performance Practice in the St John Passion; and Mozart’s
Salzburg keyboard Concertos.
