Baroque Music Study Afternoon

About the event

This study afternoon is designed primarily for students following the Edexcel and OCR A-level syllabuses. It will focus on the two AS set works from each of these boards by Bach - the first movement of Brandenburg Concerto no. 4 and the Orchestral Suite no. 3. As well as giving the opportunity for detailed analytical study with live musical examples (and complete performances), there will also be an introduction to Baroque music more generally, national musical styles of the period, and a chance to learn about Baroque instruments and playing techniques.

The orchestra members will be demonstrating and talking about their instruments and the orchestra will be playing other music by Vivaldi and Lully to illustrate the different styles in Baroque music. This will help to reinforce the teaching that the students will already have received and help them to appreciate their studies in a wider context.
