For the new year, we visit Paris. The ‘Concert Spirituel’ - despite its name - presented much of the new concert music from outside France during the society’s long history. Here, two concertos for contrasting instruments are framed by avant-garde symphonies by Stamitz and Haydn, both scored with flutes rather than the normal oboes.

The concert features the first modern performance of a newly-reconstructed concerto by the Parisian cellis, Jean-Baptiste Bréva, together with the highly unusual concerto by Tartini.
